L&D Best Practices: How They Do It

G2G (Googler-to-Googler) Training Method
Googler-to-Googler is an employee-to-employee network created to offer first-hand knowledge in different fields, from employees to employees.
As for the actual training, Google uses bite-sized lessons, part of the so-called "Whisper course", to make messages "stick." A 'nudge-based' microlearning method is used to remind managers "of the importance of regularly showing genuine and explicit appreciation for their team members."

Growth Mindset equals Skills Improvement
Microsoft's L&D goal is to encourage employees to embrace a change in their mindset and believe that if they are eager to learn, their skills will improve over time.
Like its 'onboarding' program has been planned by starting at ground zero; defining what that meant. What does success mean at 30 days? At 60? At 90? To be proficient in a role, does that mean being able to, with respect to Sales, - Sell a Product? Or have Customer Conversations? To Demo Products "the Microsoft way"? The final program was crafted by working closely across HR, the functional business, and with people experienced and successful in that role.

Learning Culture where Innovation can Thrive
Facebook's approach to L&D is multidimensional. With an objective to "promote respect and foster a culture of continual learning," Facebook's learning culture is designed to provide employees with personalised experiences for individual learning.
Its most recognised program, Managing Unconscious Bias, is based on the "belief that understanding and managing unconscious bias can help employees build stronger, more diverse and inclusive organisations.", while its signature training "Bootcamp" is a six-week introduction to the website's code base, mandatory for all Facebook engineers. Managers have their own program called Facebook's Engage Coaching Program that merges new managers with an executive coach. Using one-on-one sessions, the coach helps the new manager develop effective people management skills.

The 'Pivot' Program
Pivot pairs an underperforming employee with a "subject matter expert", called Career Ambassadors, who give guidance and support for a fixed period of time. According to Amazon's HR managers, Pivot is the company's way of "coaching and enforcing changes in behavior, a "necessity" that ensures better work performance.

Pull Learning approach
One of Slack's L&D program's guiding principles is to allow employees to choose what they want to learn. This is hinged on the belief that adults learn better when it's their choice and people absorb more information when they have chosen to engage in the learning experience.
As a part of this program, it has developed a training method called Slack Certification. The training includes a series of interactive scenarios where the user selects a character, gets information on the fictional character’s role and job duties, and by using the Slack app, interacts with a chatbot to perform a task.
